          Property Tax                               

  • The first half property tax payment is due on or before September 30th of each year.  The second half  taxes is due on or before March 31st of each year.    

  • You can  pay your taxes online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at the above linkWhen entering parcel numbers in the online payment system, please enter only the numeric digits.  For example, if your statement shows the parcel number as 7MMS 03-12-256-003, enter only 0312256003.  DO NOT enter any letters, dashes, or spaces.
    • If you choose to pay your taxes with an E-check, you will be asked to enter a receipt number as your PIN.  Your 6 digit receipt number can be found at the bottom right hand corner of your tax statement.

      (If your E-Check is not honored by your bank there will be a $30.00 NSF check charged.) 

  • Delinquent Property Taxes can be paid on line.  Click on above link. Property sold at Tax Sale must still be paid in the office or call for the amount due.

    • Disabled and Senior Citizens Property and Mobile Home Tax Credit Claims are now availabe in our office.  If you received DSC Credit on your property or mobile home taxes in September 2009, then you should receive a DSC form in the mail.  If you do not receive one or if you think you might qualify, contact our office for a form.  The claim MUST be returned to our office on or before June 1,2010.
  • Tax Sale Tax Sale is held the third Monday of June of every year for all delinquent taxes. The  annual Tax Sale is held at the Louisa County Courthouse in the Courtroom, Wapello,IA.  Subsequent Tax Sales are held on the third Monday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the Louisa County Treasurer’s office.  Please see the link below for information and forms needed to register as a bidder.

    ATTENTION TAX SALE INTERESTED PARTIES: Recently enacted legislation (HF256), effective for June 2009 Tax Sale,  requires "to be authorized to register to bid or to bid at tax sale or to own a tax sale certificate, a person, other than an individual, must have a federal tax ID# and either a designation of agent for service of process on file with the Secretary of State  of Iowa or a verified statement meeting the requirements of chapter 547 on file with the County Recorder of the county in which the person wishes to register to bid or to bid at tax sale or of the county where the property that is the subject of the tax sale certificate is located."

    Tax Sale Redemptions must be paid in the office and must be made by guaranteed funds, such as:  cash, money orders or certified checks.

      MOTOR VEHICLE

    • Motor Vehicle Renewal  - You now have the option of renewing your motor vehicle licenses on line.  If you wish to do so then click on the above link.  You are not eligible to renew online unless you received a renewal notice through the US Postal Service that contains a PIN number for online renewals.  Half year licenses and apportioned vehicle licenses are NOT eligible for online renewal.  Online service is not available if the vehicle registration fees are past due, proof of SR22 insurance is required or any state debts owed.  You have the month before, the month of, and the month after your birth/registration month to renew your vehicle license.
         DRIVERS LICENSE:
    • Drivers License -  You have 30 days before and 60 days after your birthdate to renew your drivers license.  This service is available in our office.    

      There is a $30.00 service  fee on ALL returned checks, Regular and E-Checks.

  • Public Service Hours:  8:00 - 4:00 Monday - Friday (After 4:00-Paperwork and money can be left and will be processed the next working day.)
  • Driver License: 8:30 - 3:45 Monday - Friday 
  • Driver License Testing: 8:30 - 3:15 Monday - Friday 
  • Drive Test: Wednesday by appointment only.(Must provide your own vehicle, proof of insurance and current registration.)
  • No Pre-Trips, CDL Drive Exams or Motorcycle skills testing available at this site.
  • Motor Vehicles: 8:00 - 3:45(No titles or renewals issued after 4:00 p.m. May leave paperwork to be mailed to you.) 
  • Dealers: No "Dealer Only" Titles issued after 3:30 p.m.

    There is a "Dropbox" located on the west side of the courthouse for payments for any office in the courthouse.  We are NOT responsible for CASH put in the dropbox.

    The courthouse is located on Hwy 99 in Wapello, IA.  The Treasurer’s office is on the first floor of the courthouse.

    There is a circular drive and Handicap Parking on the west side of the courthouse up by the building and there is an elevator available to get to the Courtroom on the 2nd floor.

     As Louisa County Treasurer, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to this web site. I started to work in the treasurer’s office in 1973 and was elected as treasurer in 1978. 
     
     Louisa County is situated in southeast Iowa.  The mighty Mississippi River separates Louisa County on the west and Illinois on the east.


     Points of interest in Louisa County are: Lake Odessa, Mark Twain National Wildlife Refuge, Toolsboro Indian Mounds and the Historical swinging bridge in Columbus Jct.
