Be sure to access www.iowadot.gov/mvd/ovs/index.htm for all the latest info on TIME21, new legislation, forms you may need, and other timely topics you may be interested in. February 2012 ushered in the possibility of you setting up a web account for drivers license reminders, address changes, paying civil penalties, and ability to view your driving record. Iowa DOT sent out a press release with details for using the following website address https://mymvd.iowadot.gov/ Remember, your motor vehicle renewal notices already print a reminder for you to check your drivers license for the expiration date.
Motor Vehicle Renewals became available online April 1, 2004; delinquent vehicle renewal became available in February 2010!
Your secure PIN number is noted on your vehicle renewal notice. Situations that are ineligible for online renewal (i.e. no PIN shows on notice) include unpaid fines or judgements through court system or DOT or DOR, half year licenses and apportioned vehicles. You may also have problems if you moved after renewal notice was produced but before you actually renewed. We continue to pursue these and other ideas to make the online system even more useable for you.
Credit and Debit cards are NOW ACCEPTED in the courthouse office for property tax, motor vehicle, and drivers license transactions (BUT with certain stipulations on card type that can be used). Remember that there IS a service delivery fee/applicable card fee for any of these transactions. On-Line Payment Methods accepted for Internet transactions are e-check, Discover, MasterCard and Visa.
PLEASE NOTE:
e-check payments w/b treated same as paper check for insufficient fund situations. Madison County will assess a $20 NSF charge for any payments made from an account with insufficient funds to cover the transaction. (Iowa Code Section 331.553)
