As Treasurer, I strive to offer the most efficient service to you-the citizens of Appanoose County.  I hope you will find this website informational and convenient.......offering you seven day a week 24 hour a day service.

We provide the following services from our office:  Property Tax Collection, Issuance of Vehicle Titles and Registrations, and Driver's License Issuance, Testing, and Reinstatements.

       Covid 19 Information:  We are currently allowing one customer at a time for Driver's License.  We are allowing two customers at a time for motor vehicle and tax transactions.  You will need to wait in the lobby if necessary until one customer leaves before entering.  For questions on motor vehicle  renewals and taxes please call our office.  We encourage residents to utilize our on-line services.  You can pay property tax or renew your vehicles.  You may also mail your payments to us. We also have a dropbox outside of our office door for payments. Visit mymvd.iowadot.gov to see if you are eligible to renew your driver's license on-line.

Welcome to the Appanoose County Treasurer's website.  Effective May 7, 2025, any person that plans on flying on a commercial airliner or entering any federal facility will be required to obtain a REAL ID credential.  Please feel free to inquire at our office on what documentation is needed to acquire a REAL ID.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call our office at 641-856-3097.  Effective January 1, 2020, the Appanoose County Treasurer's Office will require a bill of sale for vehicle transactions between private individuals.  

2023 Tax Sale Information: The 2023 Appanoose County Tax Sale will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 19th, 2023.  The sale will be conducted at the Appanoose County Courthouse and bidders shall place their bids online.  Bidders need not be present at the courthouse.

Effective July 1, 2023, per an Iowa Code change, the Appanoose County Driver's License Station will begin charging a $10 convenience fee for issuance of a driver's license or identification card to anyone who is not a resident of Appanoose County, unless the resient pays property taxes here.  

 

 

APPANOOSE NOTICE TO TAX SALE PURCHASERS 2023  

 

 

ACCEPTED ONLINE PAYMENT METHODS:   Discover, Mastercard, Visa and e-Check are accepted for Internet Transactions.   A $30.00 returned check fee will be assessed on any payments returned due to insufficient funds.

 

VEHICLE RENEWALS:  Motor vehicle renewals may be done online.  If your vehicle registration is delinquent, the vehicle may not qualify for online renewal.  Half year license and apportioned vehicles are not eligible for online renewal at this time. If you have a plate that requires you to present us with additional documentation of if you have a state debt owed or if you are required to have SR insurance, you will not be eligible to renew online.

PROPERTY TAXES:  Property taxes may be paid online.  Current year taxes and delinquent taxes, not involved in a Tax Sale Certificate are available for payment online.  Please contact our office for assistance on Tax Sale redemption amounts.  The 2021 Real Estate and 2022 Mobile Home tax is now payable.  The first half tax payment is due on or before September 1, 2022. You may also pay the full year at this time if you wish. Interest attaches October 1, 2022 on the first half.  The second half tax payment is due on or before March 1, 2023. Interest attaches April 1, 2023.  In those instances when the last day of September or March is a Saturday or Sunday, that amount becomes delinquent on the second busisness day of October or April.  

DRIVER'S LICENSE:  You may renew you driver's license in our office Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.  You have up to 60 days after your birthday to renew before your license becomes delinquent.

DRIVER'S LICENSE INFORMATION:  As of January 15, 2013, the 2005 Real ID Act took effect in Iowa Driver's License stations.  The Real ID Act promotes security in the issuance of DLs and ID cards, and deters identity theft and fraud by requiring states to meet certain physical and procedural security standards for production and issuance of DLs and ID cards, as well as certain documentation standards, including authentication and verification standards for proof of identity, date of birth, Social Security number, residence and lawful status or presense.  Documents required to obtain a Real ID are:  Certified US Birth Certificate or US Passport, Social Security card and two (2)forms of Iowa address verification.     • Written Tests..................................Monday - Friday 8:00a.m. - 3:15 p.m .
      You must arrive no later than 3:10 p.m. to ensure time to complete the test and be issued a credential.
    • Car Drive Tests....................Wednesday by appointment 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
