Welcome to the Mahaska County Treasurer's webpage.  Motor vehicle and Drivers License, are open for in person transactions BY APPOINTMENT ONLY as of June 1, 2020.  We are limiting Motor Vehicle appointments to title transfers, duplicate title, plate exchanges and other services not offered onlineFor Vehicle Renewal and property tax payments, please pay online, by mail or by drop box.  We will be cleaning between each appointment.  We continue to serve our residents by phone, mail, and by email. We are processing transactions by online, by mail, as well as via a drop box located near the front door of the courthouse daily. Drivers License will be remain by APPOINTMENT ONLY, for issuance, knowledge test is limited by appointments as well.  NO DRIVE TESTING.

 * AS OF FRIDAY, MARCH 27, 2020, we have opened a ONE LANE DRIVE-UP WINDOW located at the Mahaska County Courthouse ANNEX BUILDING, 301 1st Ave East, Oskaloosa IA.  The drive up window is along the east side of building.  The drive up window is for VEHICLE TITLE TRANSFERS.   Appointment are REQUIRED.  Please call 641-673-4618 to make an appointment or for more information.  Make payment to Mahaska County Treasurer by check, cash, or money order.  We DO NOT have availability of  debit/credit.  All plates, titles, and registrations will be MAILED the following business day.  NO VEHICLE renewals at this location, as appointments are limited.

Online Payment Services: Property Tax and Vehicle Registrations

Discover, MasterCard, Visa and eCheck are accepted for internet transactions; 7 days a week, 24 hours a day! A service delivery fee will apply.

  • Pay Property Taxes on-line; We encourage you to pay current and delinquent tax on-line.
  • 2nd half property tax due by March 30, 2020 may be paid by July 31, 2020 without penalty per the current proclamation of Governor Reynolds.  Penalty WILL begin August 1, 2020 at a rate of 1.5% per month and increase 1.5% the first day of each month.  If you have not yet paid your March 2020 taxes, there may be a 2020 tax sale soon, please be advised, if your property tax remains delinquent it would be required to be offered at the said Tax Sale.  Please give this your immediate attention as the Governor's proclamation that had provided the extension regarding penalty will expire on July 31, 2020 and penalty will resume.

You may search by Name, Address or Parcel number.  Scroll to the bottom of the page you searched, the receipt number will be near the bottom of the page on the right hand side in the Tax History portion. 

 

VEHICLE TAG RENEWALS: You are eligible to renew on-line if you received a renewal notice through the US Postal Service that contains a PIN Number for on-line renewals.

Property Tax Payments may also be deposited in the DROP BOX, located just inside of the front doors of the Mahaska County Courthouse.  We are accepting checks, certified checks and money orders in the mail and via the drop box.  Please make the payment payable to: Mahaska County Treasurer.  We are NOT accepting cash at this time.  

DROP BOX is labeled: DROP BOX - Property tax and Vehicle Registration.  Please place your payment and payment stubs in an envelope, verify your mailing address.  Please write your name and phone number on the outside of the envelope in case we need to contact you.

  • Tax Sale Certificates MAY NOT BE REDEEMED ON-LINE, or over the phone.  You MAY redeem by mail, or by drop box located just inside of the courthouse main doors, call 641-673-5482 for redemption amount due. 
  • Tax Sale redemptions made between May 1 - July 31, must be paid with CERTIFIED FUNDS (cashier check, money order.  CERTIFIED FUNDS are also required, upon receipt of Tax Sale Completed Service Affidavit, including 90-Day Notice of Expiration of Right of Redemption.  If you have questions, or need an appointment, please contact our office at 641-673-5482.

Our phones are very busy, please be patient.  Please pay attention to your appointment location for Motor Vehicle, as we are scheduling appointments at the Courthouse as well as the Mahaska County Courthouse ANNEX.

 

If YOU purchased a vehicle from February 13 - March 15, 2020 please contact our office immediately at 641-673-4618, to schedule an appointment at the drive up window to transfer your vehicle, or to assist you by email, or Penalty will begin very soon on these transfers!

If YOU purchased a vehicle from March 16 - July 25, 2020 You MUST apply for title and registration prior to August 25, 2020 to avoid penalties and other issues.  Please call to make your appointment (641)-673-4618, please do not put this off, penalties will begin soon.  

If YOU have a registration that expired on January 31, February 29, March 31, April 30, May 31, June 30 or July 31 You MUST renew registration by August 31 to avoid penalties as the current proclamation that had extended that period expires July 25, 2020.  Please keep your vehicle registrations current.

DRIVERS LICENSE:  Are by APPOINTMENT ONLY and will be for issuance and limited knowledge testing.  We may assist you by phone regarding your current options.  Please contact 641-673-9521.  WE ARE NOT scheduling drive tests at this time.  You may contact an Iowa DOT service center using the link below for drive test availability across the state of Iowa.

To see how your drivers license is impacted go to https://iowadot.gov.  If you can, please renew ONLINE as in office appointments are limited.  If you are a CDL holder and your Drivers License has expired you need to schedule your appointment and complete it prior to July 25, 2020.  If you are age 70 please schedule an appointment prior to July 25, 2020 and complete it.  

 

We are not conducting drive tests at this time.  Please go to the DOT service-selector above to schedule your drive test at a State Drivers License station.

 

Real ID has been postponed until October 21, 2021.

The Mahaska County Courthouse is centrally located in Oskaloosa, Iowa. We are located at 106 South First Street adjacent to the town square. Handicap parking is available on the north side of the Courthouse as well as a handicap accessible ramp.

The Treasurers office (Tax and Automobile/Drivers License) is on the first floor of the Courthouse. You will enter the Courthouse on the ground level. Go up one flight of stairs to the first floor, an elevator is also available. The Treasurers office is to the right.

The Treasurers office consists of the Tax and Automobile/Drivers License Departments. All three departments are clearly marked with signs above each door for your convenience.
