Welcome to the Mahaska County Treasurer's webpage. The  Motor Vehicle Department is open to the public from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM for in person transactions.  We are limiting in person transactions to 1 person at the counter at a time for MV.  We encourage you to pay your registration renewals online, by mail, or by drop box, located just inside of the front doors of the courthouse, when possible.  We HIGHLY recommend you wear a mask when you come to our office(s).

The Drivers License Department remains by APPOINTMENT.  Please call (641)673-9521 to schedule your appointmentWe often have same day, or next day appointments available for DL.  Knowledge testing is limited by appointments as well.

Drive tests are available by appointment every TUESDAY MORNING for car drives and D2's. All drive testing requires a pre-screening at Mahaska Health Partnership, 1229 C Ave East Oskaloosa IA (go to DOOR 3).  This will include a temperature check and COVID questions.  The pre-screening must be completed a half an hour before your drive test appointment.

The Property Tax Department is open to the public for in person transactions.  We are limiting in person transactions to 2 people at the counter at a time for Tax.  We encourage you to pay your current property tax online, by mail or by drop box, located just inside of the front doors of the courthouse.

Online Payment Services: Property Tax and Vehicle Registrations

Discover, MasterCard, Visa and eCheck are accepted for internet transactions; 7 days a week, 24 hours a day! A service delivery fee will apply.

To locate your receipt number for eCheck payments you may go here

You may search by Name, Address or Parcel number.  Scroll to the bottom of the page you searched, the receipt number will be near the bottom of the page on the right hand side in the Tax History portion. 

 

VEHICLE TAG RENEWALS: You are eligible to renew on-line if you received a renewal notice through the US Postal Service that contains a PIN Number for on-line renewals.  Or you may use your AUDIT Number for on-line renewals found on your current vehicle registration, the AUDIT number is located on the left hand side of current registration, about 3/4ths of the way down.

Property Tax Payments may also be deposited in the DROP BOX, located just inside of the front doors of the Mahaska County Courthouse.  We are accepting checks, certified checks and money orders in the mail and via the drop box.  Please make the payment payable to: Mahaska County Treasurer.  We are NOT accepting cash payments in the drop box.  

DROP BOX is labeled: DROP BOX - Property tax and Vehicle Registration.  Please place your payment and payment stubs in an envelope, verify your mailing address.  Please write your name and phone number on the outside of the envelope in case we need to contact you.

  • Tax Sale Certificates MAY NOT BE REDEEMED ON-LINE, or over the phone.  You MAY redeem by mail, or by drop box located just inside of the courthouse main doors.  Please call 641-673-5482 for redemption amount due. If you need assistance you may come to the tax office, please wear a mask. Limit of 2 customers at our counter at a time.
  • Tax Sale redemptions made between May 1 - July 31, must be paid with CERTIFIED FUNDS (cashier check, money order.  CERTIFIED FUNDS are also required, upon receipt of Tax Sale Completed Service Affidavit, including 90-Day Notice of Expiration of Right of Redemption.  If you have questions, or need an appointment, please contact our office at 641-673-5482.

The Mahaska County Courthouse is centrally located in Oskaloosa, Iowa. We are located at 106 South First Street adjacent to the town square. Handicap parking is available on the north side of the Courthouse as well as a handicap accessible ramp.

The Treasurers office (Tax and Automobile/Drivers License) is on the first floor of the Courthouse. You will enter the Courthouse on the ground level. Go up one flight of stairs to the first floor, an elevator is also available. The Treasurers office is to the right.

The Treasurers office consists of the Tax and Automobile/Drivers License Departments. All three departments are clearly marked with signs above each door for your convenience.
