REAL ID ACT
(adds a gold star to your license or identification card)
Real ID is a federal act that established minimum standards for state issued driver’s license and identification cards. It focuses on anti-terrorism, fraud protection, and security by requiring states to meet the standards.
Beginning October 1, 2021 when you enter a federal building or fly commercially you’ll need a state issued REAL ID license/identification card or another acceptable identity document. Otherwise, you’ll be subject to additional screening and potential delay.
